Abstract:

The research is aimed at determining the levels of master students studying in Information and Document Management (BBY) having the skills of the 21st century. The scan pattern from non-experimental research patterns was preferred to study the student's 21st century skill levels change. The sample of the study is made by 683 students who are geographically in different locations in Turkey and are active students in the BBY department of 9 universities. 3 different measurement tools have been used to measure the skills of the 21st century determined within the framework of the study as a data collection tool and the data have been collected in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. In the analysis of data, one-way MANOVA statistical analysis technique has been used. As a result; it has been found that the levels of students possessing digital literature, collaboration and algorithmic thinking skills rise as the class level increases. When studied by age levels, the differences between groups were found only in terms of cooperative and algorithmic thinking skills. A comparison by universities found that the level of effective listening skills, which is an element of algorithmic thinking, cooperation and effective communication skills, showed significant differences. The highest level of digital literature skills are achieved by the results of students studying at the University of Hacettepe. 21 of the universities. The findings obtained about the acquisition of their century skills have been discussed in detail in the study and recommendations have been presented in accordance with the findings. The results of this study are expected to guide the BBY faculty to a curriculum design that allows their students to develop their 21st century skills.
