Abstract:

The research was carried out to examine the levels of performing daily and instrumental life activities and the effects of the quality of life of the patients aged 65 and over registered in the home health service unit of a training and research hospital in Ankara. In the research, three scales were used that were Quality of Life Scale for The Elderly, Daily Life Activities (ADL) and Instrumental Daily Life Activities (IADL) Scales. It was found that scores of the men higher than scores of the women when evaluated the scores in the autonomy sub-dimensions and total of WHOQOL-OLD.TR. There is a statistically significant negative correlation between ADL scores, IADL scores, autonomy subdimension scores, past-present-future subdimension scores, social participation subdimension, total points and proximity subdimensions. It was found that the quality of life scores of the 65-69 age group were lower than those of the 85-89 age group, and the scores in the social participation sub-dimension of the primary school graduates were lower than those of the middle school graduates. In the past, present, future sub-dimension, the quality of life scores of those without neurological diseases, the autonomy sub-dimension of individuals without muscle disease, and the quality of life scores in the death-dying sub-dimensions, and the sensory function sub-dimension of those with orthopedic disease and neurological disease were found to be higher. Individuals with 2-3 diseases were found to have higher scores in sensory function sub-dimension than those with 4 or more diseases. It was observed that as the number of medical devices and products used by the patients decreased, the quality of life scores in the sensory function sub-dimension and autonomy sub-dimension increased. With home healthcare, patients have the opportunity to receive a more comfortable health service in their living spaces by reducing the risk of infection in the hospital environment. It may be suggested that social programs for the elderly should be organized in order to increase the quality of life, and that elderly individuals should be supported by the staff who will come to their homes every week, provide social and psychological support, increase their well-being, and guide them in line with their needs. In this context, it is believed in Turkey that home health care services, social services and home care applications is important to provide integrated to each other.
