Abstract:

At first, the Companions made an effort to transmit and preserve the hadiths in a reliable way. This effort and sensitivity of the Companions was also seen in their students, the tabiîn scholars, and as a result of this effort, some rules emerged. While some of these rules were used jointly by hadith scholars and jurists, others were applied by only one of these two understandings. One of the rules discussed on it is whether the narrator's narration can be considered weak because he acts contrary to his narration. This rule has been tried to be applied especially by Hanafī scholars. However, some hadith scholars also applied this criterion. In this study, it will be tried to reveal that Abu Dāvūd es-Sicistānī (d. 275/889), who is known as Ahl-i hadith, applies the aforementioned rule, by determining and transferring the examples from es-Sünan, who also applies this rule when he deems it necessary. The goal we want to achieve with this is to reveal the contributions of hadith scholars to text criticism.
