Abstract:

Behçet Necatigil is one of the important names of the Turkish poetry of the Republic Period. No literary flow or movement formed during the period has been involved, and has remained independent and created its own line in our poetry. A poet who works many kinds of literature is also a teacher. The poet, which is very evident in his poems, especially in the house, incorporates the surroundings, the street, the city poems, and establishes a poetry over them. Necatigil, who spent a large part of his life in Istanbul, in his poems puts place in the nature, architecture and everyday life of Istanbul. The poet, who incorporates the life of the city’s middle man through his own experience into his poems, first and foremost walks through the streets of many districts of the city, including Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, and integrates his feelings, what he sees, his observations with his poetry. Necatigil’s poems are like a social observation and output. For the poet who sees the house as a peaceful home, the streets are a place that is rapidly changing and turning, and with this change and transformation losing its ancient beauty; away from nature, from warm human relationships, from compassion, without help, from intimity. The streets, an old witness of lost social values, are the pathways of desire that extend to the old, to the past in Necatigil’s poems. The street, with all reality and voice, is located in the shares of Necitigil.
