Abstract:

The aim of this article is to analyze two novels, Reşat Nuri Güntekin's novel "Yaprak Dökümü" and Esma’il Fasih's novel Del-Kur (Blind Heart), written on the same subject in two different countries, Turkey and Iran, on the basis of comparative literature. It is noteworthy that a similar work was written on the disintegration of a family in two different countries and in the same historical process. Both Reşat Nuri Güntekin and Esma’il Fasih based a crowded family in their novels, citing the moral degradation of family members as the cause of the family's dissolution. In this respect, they reflected the social changes in their countries in their works. The first similarity in the novels is the themes. Both works are based on the clash of two opposing values—tradition and modernism in Yaprak Dökümü, and good and evil in Del-Kur. There are also common figures and themes. In both novels, "home" is the common theme in the center of the novel, showing the changes in families. Another similar theme is "tree". In “Yaprak Dökümü”, the “tree” represents the family; the expression "leaf shed" is used for each child who leaves home. This expression indicates the disintegration of the family. Similarly, the "tree" theme is used in the novel Del-Kur. The "uprooting of the tree" on the street as a representation of the disintegration of the family takes place in the novel. Family members have similar characteristics in both novels. In the introduction of the article, the term comparative literature in general will be discussed. The common motives and similar characters in the two novels will then be presented in detail, and the result section will show that the novels have similar characteristics in terms of endings.
