Abstract:

The Korean War is a phenomenon that leaves profound traces in Turkey’s social life. Despite not being given a lot of place in the general history writing, it has gained an important place in social memory through the verbal stories of the participants in the war. The documentation on the subject is limited. These works are also often prepared for the anniversary of the war and in the traditional documentary narrative format. The documentary that tells about the war and the rest of the front through witnesses is not enough to be destroyed. However, documentaries prepared by the verbal history method have the character of contributing to the general history writing and making history a living object. The documentary "Muttaz Unity: The Last Witnesses of the Korean War" fills an important gap in this sense. By revealing the various unknown events through witnesses, it brings light on the role of the Turkish military in the war and how the Korean public formed in Turkey.
