Abstract:

National culture, which is a dominant and determining element behind the behavior of individuals who make society, is an integrating structure that helps to live together. National culture does not only show itself in social life, it also influences the organization culture by playing an important role in working life. The work safety culture, which is a subsystem of the organization culture, is also formed in the light of these effects in a similar way. Thus, with the view that both the organization culture and the work safety culture are a reflection of the national culture, this study has assessed the effects of the national culture on the work safety culture in Hofstede's Theory of Cultural Dimensions and in terms of power distances and uncertainty measures that are highly determined in Turkey. The literary scan method adopted in this framework and the national culture, organization culture and labor security culture literature have been reviewed and the relationship with each other has been revealed, and this relationship has been interpreted in particular in Turkey in terms of power distance and the extent of avoidance of uncertainty. The result of the study is that the high power distance in Turkey and the avoidance of uncertainty have a negative impact on the work safety culture.
