Abstract:

The study focuses on "Süs Magazine", a journal that emerged in the 20th century and encompasses the final era of the Ottoman Empire and the initial phase of the Turkish Republic. Süs Magazine stands out as a significant women's journal that delicately covers the historical and sociological shifts between these distinct periods in its all volumes. However, although it reflects this pivotal time, studies addressing Süs Magazine in the literature are quite limited. Therefore, this research aims to illuminate the historical and sociological viewpoints presented in the magazine during this transformative period and examine each of its editions. Additionally, this study explores how Süs Magazine influenced the development of a new identity of modern women and society on a broader scale. It assesses the socio-cultural role of Süs Magazine in shaping this new identity and examines the image of the modern woman that the Turkish Republic aimed to promote. Moreover, the impact of crucial parameters such as education, intellectual transformation in the media, women's involvement in professional life, and their consumption patterns within the broader context of the societal transformation were also taken into consideration in this study.
