Abstract:

Turkish lesson is an effective tool in transmitting emotions and thoughts through the language. The first stages of winning the reading culture are among the primary achievements of the Turkish course. The concept of Value Education has also been included in Turkish courses with the Value Education Programs (2015, 2017, 2018) and the Value Education Guidelines (2010/53) of the Ministry of Education. The stories of Omer Seyfettin are powerful texts to be used in both the development of the reading culture and the transmission of the educational elements of the values it carries. The texts used in the Turkish lessons are not just an instrument in translating the achievements included in the program. The literary power of the texts and the contribution of students to the reading culture cannot be neglected. Through literary texts, the concepts to be given to the student are given more effectively with the reading pleasure and literary beauty provided by the stories instead of being transmitted directly. Stories, which are an effective means of translation by concreteing values, should also be treated as a goal of improving the student’s reading culture. The great master of Turkish history, Omer Seyfettin and his stories, form the universe of our work. The examples of the study are 50 stories. In the study, the stories of Omer Seyfettin were studied with an image scan model in terms of the 20 determined values and the elements of the reading culture he gained.
