Abstract:

This study has been aimed at determining the level of organizational commitment of teachers working in primary education institutions. The examples of the study are made up of 196 teachers working in 6 official schools in Istanbul or Esenler district in the spring of the 2011-2012 educational year. The Organizational Liability Scale was used by Bulşunoğlu, Bakay and Godöğen (2010) adapted to Turkey. While the study tries to determine the level of commitment of the teachers of primary education, the organizational commitment is addressed in three different dimensions: emotional commitment, continued commitment and normative commitment; the level of commitment of the teachers is studied in terms of variables such as fields, postgrades, working hours in the school in which they perform their duties, and the status of membership in the union. According to the teachers who are not members of the trade union, the level of commitment is higher in the lower dimensions of normative commitment and the level of commitment is higher in the lower dimensions of emotional commitment and the level of commitment is higher in the lower dimensions. According to the field variable, there is no statistically significant difference in the lower dimensions of emotional, continuous and normative commitment.
