Edebiyat sosyolojisi, hem bir eseri oluşturan sosyal etkiyi hem de bir sanatçının/eserin topluma etkilerini inceleyen bir bilim dalıdır. Bu alanda yaptığı çalışmalarla tanınan Lucien Goldmann, Roman Sosyolojisi adlı çalışmasında roman özelinde bu etkileşime dair çıkarımlarda bulunmuştur. Ona göre, romanın içyapısı, romana hâkim olan dünya görüşünün izlerini taşır. Sadece romanın içyapısına bakmak romandaki toplumsal etkiyi, sadece roman üstünde etkili olan toplumsal etkiye bakmak da eserin edebî yönünün ıskalanmasını neden olur. Bu nedenle Goldmann “anlama” ve “açıklama” olarak isimlendirdiği iki ayrı bakış açısıyla romanların analiz edilmesi gerektiğini düşünmüştür. Goldmann bu okuma yöntemini “Oluşumsal Yapısalcı” yöntem olarak adlandırmıştır. Çalışmada Sevgi Soysal’ın Şafak adlı romanı bu anlayış açısından analiz edilecektir. Bunun için “anlama” aşamasında öncelikle romanın içyapısını oluşturan unsurlar, gereksiz detaylar ayıklanarak ve nesnel bir bakışla, ortaya konacaktır. “Açıklama” aşamasında ise romanda beliren dünya görüşüne dair tespitlerde bulunulacaktır. Bu okuma yöntemiyle incelenecek olan Şafak, Sevgi Soysal’ın Adana sürgünü sırasında yaşadığı gerçek bir olaydan esinlenilerek kaleme alınmış bir romandır. Soysal, romanında akşam misafir olarak bulunduğu eve yapılan polis baskını üzerinden, Adana’nın sosyal dokusunu, güç karşısında insanların düştükleri durumları, hukuka bağlı olmanın önemini ele almıştır.
Sociology of literature is a branch of science that examines both the social impact of a work and the effects of an artist/work on society. Lucien Goldmann, known for his studies in this field, made inferences about this interaction specifically for the novel in his work titled Novel Sociology. According to him, the internal structure of the novel bears the traces of the worldview that dominates the novel. Looking only at the internal structure of the novel causes the social impact in the novel to be overlooked, and looking only at the social impact affecting the novel causes the literary aspect of the work to be missed. For this reason, Goldmann thought that novels should be analyzed from two separate perspectives, which he called “understanding” and “explanation”. Goldmann called this reading method the “Genetic Structuralist” method. In this study, Sevgi Soysal's novel Şafak will be analyzed in terms of this understanding. For this purpose, in the “understanding” phase, the elements that make up the internal structure of the novel will be revealed with an objective view, by eliminating unnecessary details. In the “Explanation” phase, determinations will be made about the worldview that appears in the novel. Şafak, which will be examined with this reading method, is a novel inspired by a real event that Sevgi Soysal experienced during her exile in Adana. In his novel, Soysal discusses the social fabric of Adana, the situations people face in the face of power, and the importance of adhering to the law, through the police raid on the house where he was a guest for the evening.
