Abstract:

Face to face education in Turkey was ceased and distance education process began on March 15 because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The aim of this study is to reveal the experiences of secondary school teachers regarding emergency remote teaching activities. This research, designed with a phenomenological approach, is important in terms of revealing how teachers make sense of these experiences about distance education for the first time in basic education levels during the COVID-19 outbreak. The study group of the research consists of 8 secondary school teachers from different branches who experience live lessons for the first time. An interview form with semi-structured open-ended questions was used as a data collection tool in the study. The data obtained in the study were analyzed with content analysis approach and shared under the heading of findings. In order to increase the credibility of the research data, the expert review method was used. Considering the results of the research, although the teachers welcomed the distance education activities, they stated that the student participation was not efficient due to various reasons.
