Abstract:

Addressing terms are among the language units in which a direct connection and relationship can be established between the sender and the receiver, among the options offered by the language universe. First of all, there is a need to develop a contextsensitive, meaning-based classification with linguistic criteria in order to be able to evaluate the addressing terms, which are examined from different perspectives in many social sciences. In order to develop such a classification, a corpus that offers a rich vocabulary in terms of addressing terms is required. Theatrical texts stand out as one of the most competent text types in which addressing terms, which are shaped by speeches and require the receiver and the sender by their nature, can be followed. In the present study, in which Haldun Taner’s published 12 (twelve) theatrical works were used as a corpus, the addressing terms determined were examined under 8 (eight) titles in terms of their semantic features. In each title, the relevant meaning area was tried to be explained briefly, then the addressing terms that belonged to the group in question were listed. Address terms, which became evident in terms of some qualities, were presented and discussed with examples. By evaluating the addressing terms in the texts, it was concluded that the proposed classification has the flexibility to be used for new research. In addition, the importance of using theatrical texts as a corpus in language studies, which is lacking in the literature, is emphasized through this study sample.
