Abstract:

The interpretation of postmodern works is difficult because the meaning field of the text is often not drawn correctly by the reader, and the reader has difficulties in how to approach these works. Oğuz Atay gave the first example of postmodernism in Turkish Literature of the Republican period with his novel "Tutunamayanlar". In this study, it is aimed to shed light on the postmodernist traces in the story "Unutulan" from the book "Korkuyu Beklerken" by Oğuz Atay, one of the postmodern representatives of Turkish Literature. In the study; some narrative techniques such as intertextual reference, temporal structure, stream of consciousness and inner monologue are discussed together with the fictional/metafictional features of the text. The method followed in order to both explain the text and show the postmodern projections in the text by using the symbols and images that make up the meaning in the story is reader-centered reading. In this context, the theory of reception aesthetics was used. It is expected that the analysis study will guide the readers and then Turkish teachers and Turkish Language and Literature course teachers on how to approach the works that are the products of the postmodernist movement. In addition, it is thought that these works will contribute to readers and students in terms of internalizing them through reading a deep meaning beyond superficial reading.
