Abstract:

Production and trade are accelerating economic growth and increasing energy demand. In the context of increasing energy demand, today, global warming and environmental destruction are increasingly affecting the World. Within this framework, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have been restricted within the framework of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.The aim of this study is to examinethe relationship between CO2 emissions, electricity consumption and economic growth in 34 OECD countries. Second-generation panel unit root tests were used because of the cross sectional dependence problem in the series.Because of the variables are not stable at the same time, the Toda-Yamamoto causality analysis is applied within the ARDL model. According to the result of the study, a long-run cointegrated relationship between the variables was determined, in the Westerlund cointegration test. In the analysis of causality made, one-way causality from CO2 emission to electricity consumption and economic growth has been determined.No other causality was found among the other variables.
