Metaforlarla Şehri Anlamak: Önlisans Öğrencilerinin Selçuk’a (izmir) Yönelik Metaforik Algılarının İncelenmesi

Bu çalışmanın amacı turizm ve otel işletmeciliği programındaki önlisans öğrencilerinin Selçuk’ a yönelik ne tür metaforik algılara sahip olduklarının irdelenmesidir. Çalışma grubu 2018/2019 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde öğrenim gören ve öğrenim süresince Selçuk’ta kalan 1. ve 2. sınıf öğrencisi olmak üzere toplam 60 (33E, 27K) öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Çalışma, verinin toplandığı ve çözümlendiği yol açısından nitel araştırma kapsamında olgubilim deseninin kullanılmasıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma grubunun belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt temelli örneklemeden faydalanılmıştır. Çalışmada (1)Selçuk (İzmir) ilçesinde aktif olarak öğrenim gören turizm ve otel işletmeciliği programı önlisans öğrencilerinin Selçuk’ a ilişkin geliştirdikleri metaforlar nelerdir? (2)Katılımcıların geliştirdiği bu metaforlar ortak özellikleri bakımından hangi kavramsal kategoriler altında toplanabilir? sorularına yanıt aranmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri “Selçuk….gibidir çünkü……” şeklindeki açık uçlu soru ile elde edilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre önlisans öğrencileri Selçuk’a yönelik toplam 38 adet geçerli metafor geliştirmiştir ve bu metaforlar ortak özellikleri bakımından incelenerek 4 kategori altında değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada öğrencilerin Selçuk çekimyerini en çok huzur metaforu ile ilişkilendirdiği tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to inform the pre-graduate students in the tourism and hotel management program about what kind of metaforic perceptions they have towards Selçuk. The work group consists of a total of 60 (33E, 27K) students, including first and second-class students who have studied in the spring period of the 2018/2019 academic year and remained in Selçuk during the study period. The study was carried out by the use of the behavioral pattern in the framework of the quality research in the way the data was collected and analyzed. The study group has been used by measurement-based sampling methods for determining the purpose of sampling. In the study (1)What are the metaphors developed by the pre-graduate students of the tourism and hotel management program that are actively studying in the Selçuk (Izmir) district? (2)Which conceptual categories can these metaphors developed by participants be gathered in terms of common characteristics? Asked for answers to questions. The data of the study was obtained with an open end question in the form of "Selçuk....because..." According to the research findings, pre-graduate students have developed a total of 38 current metaphors for Selçuk and these metaphors have been evaluated under 4 categories by examining their common characteristics. The study found that students associated Selçuk with a very peaceful metaphor.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the metaphorical perceptions of associate degree students studying in tourism and hotel management program towards Selçuk. The study group of this research is composed of 60 students (33M, 27F) of grades 1 and 2 studying in 2018/2019 academic year and live in Selçuk. The study was carried out by using phenomenology design within the scope of qualitative research in terms of the way the data was collected and analyzed. In order to determine the study group, criterion- based sampling technique was used. Following questions have been investigated in this study: (1)What are the metaphors relating to Selçuk developed by the associate students of the tourism and hotel management program actively studying in Selçuk (İzmir)? (2)What conceptual categories can these metaphors developed by the participants be combined in terms of their common characteristics? In the study, the data were obtained with open-ended question “Selçuk is like…..,because……”. According to the research findings, associate students developed 38 metaphors for Selçuk and these metaphors were examined in terms of their common characteristics and evaluated under 4 categories. In the study, it was found that the students mostly associate Selçuk with the metaphor of peace.
