Abstract:

Private health insurance is one of the most important methods used in the financing of health services, and is a place within the system according to the health policies of the countries. Turkey is far behind developing countries in terms of private health insurance within the health system. This can be explained by a social health policy follow-up of Turkey. Private health insurance is often preferred by individuals who wish to benefit from the services provided by private health organizations outside the SGK scope. The aim of the study is to analyze the current situation of private health insurance in Turkey through SWOT analysis. To this goal, the Delphi method was used and the work was carried out with a team of ten experts. When the results of the study were examined, a analysis of the current state of Turkey’s private health insurance, which consists of strong aspects, 7 of weak aspects, 13 of opportunities and 10 of threats. As the strongest aspect, while high-quality service offerings with low waiting time are shown, the most important weakness is that customers do not have sufficient knowledge about private health insurance. The attention of people to their health, the industry’s openness to growth and the increase in the number of educational institutions in the field of insurance have been considered the most important opportunities, the majority of the services provided in public hospitals are under the GSS and the major threats that the private health insurance system is not able to meet the entire expenses.
