Abstract:

The aim of this study was to perform a comparison between children receiving counseling and children at risk of crime according to their personal and social variables. The study population consisted of 106 children receiving counseling and education within the province of Erzurum during the 2011-2012 academic year, and of 108 children at risk of crime receiving education at the “Children Counseling and Education Center” (CCAEC). Data was collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support adapted into Turkish by Eker and Arkar (1995), and the Personal Information Form developed by the researcher. Data analysis was performed by using the t-test and chi-square analyses. Based on the study data, a significant difference was identified between the distribution of children receiving counseling and of children at risk of crime according to the variables of gender, perceived socio-economic level, maternal education level, paternal education level, maternal attitude, paternal attitude, relationship between mother and father, type of school attended, perception of success, perception of happiness, perception of achievement, perception of hope towards to the future, and the most enjoyed activities.
