Abstract:

Parrot is capable of imitate human voice and some words. It has appeared in all world literatures with this ability. In classical Ottoman poetry aka Diwan Poetry parrot used as symbols of many different even opposite meanings. Parrot image came to Persian culture from India and Indian folk tales. Then it came to Turkish culture and literature. For this reason parrot generally mentioned with its origin country India. In poetry parrot used as an analogy for persons who speaks well. It has seen that sometimes it also used for talkative persons. Parrots generally mentioned with candy and mirror since they learn speaking with mirror and like to eat candy. In sufî poetry parrots used as symbol for desires of self and blessings of material world since it has colorful and fancy appearance. Sometimes it has related with Hızır because of its green feathers. Parrots could used as symbol for love and lover because it teaches the true meaning of love to lover and it make poet speak with love.
