Abstract:

Turks that have lived in a large geographical area throughout history, believed in various religions-Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam. The Turkish folk beliefs maintained their presence in different times, places and religions. There are common beliefs that are not affected by geography, time and religion changes. This study examined the role of the women in Turkish folk beliefs that contributed to the survival and transfer of those beliefs. By sticking to the path followed in research of folk beliefs, examples of folk beliefs about women during transition periods such as birth, marriage and death, were determined. Transition periods are times of significant change in human life. Because of the fact that birth and marriage has a bigger psychological impact on women, it was examined how it affected folk beliefs about women. Again, considering the importance of visiting places of folk beliefs, information was given about visiting places associated with women, in other words places that are especially visited by women or visiting places of women's burial grounds. In this study, as it is requested to reveal an overall picture from Central Asia where Turks live and are culturally in close relationship to Balkans, the field research has not been made in a limited area, it has been attempted to make a general typologyfrom the quantitative and the qualitative ones of scientific studies done previously by utilizing the historical documentation techniques. In this context, the purpose of study is to discuss in terms of discipline in History of Religions in attitude, acceptance and implementation of women related to birth, marriage and death in Turkish folk beliefs.
