Minyatürlerin Sanat Tarihi Eğitiminde Kullanılması: Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi’ndeki Surname-i Hümayun Örneği

Sanat tarihi eğitiminde öğrencilerin, Dünya’nın çeşitli ülkelerindeki sanat eserleri ve sanatçıları olduğu kadar, kendi kültürlerindeki sanatsal üretim biçimleri, sanatçıları ve sanat eserlerini incelemeye ve öğrenme ihtiyaçları vardır. Minyatür sanatı Türklerin karekteristik ve geleneksel sanatlarından biridir. Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi’nde Türk minyatür sanatının farklı dönem ve kültürlerine ait en başarılı ve ilginç örnekleri bulunmaktadır. Bu minyatürler aynı zamanda Osmanlı devrinin tarihini, ekonomik ve sosyal hayatını yansıtan birer tarihi belgedirler. Ayrıca sanat tarihi öğretiminin ‘sanat eserlerlerinin öneminin ve toplum içindeki yerinin anlaşılmasına katkıda bulunmak’ amacına yönelik inceleme için de çok uygun eserlerdir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, minyatürlerin sanat tarihi eğitimindeki öneminin anlaşılmasına katkıda bulunmak ve Topkapı Müzesi Kütüphanesi’ndeki minyatür sanatı eserlerinden nasıl faydalanılabileceği konusunu örneklendirmektir. Bu örneklendirme için Surname-i Hümayun adlı yazmanın minyatürleri seçilmiştir. Bu eserin seçilme nedeni, öncelikle klasik dönem Osmanlı minyatür üslubunun en önemli örneklerini içermesidir. Diğer bir neden Surname-i Hümayun’un konu ve tasarım açısından ortaokul öğretim programında yer alan ‘Görsel Sanatlar Dersi’ kapsamında sanat tarihi ve minyatür eğitimi ile ilgili hedeflerle ilişkiler kurulabilecek Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi’nin en uygun yazmalarından biri olmasıdır. Bu makalede öncelikle alan yazın taramasına dayalı olarak Türk minyatür sanatı, Surname-i Hümayun eseri, sanat tarihi eğitimi ve Türk eğitim sistemi içinde sanat tarihi öğretimi incelenmiştir. Daha sonra sanat tarihi öğretimi ile Surname-i Hümayun arasında nasıl bir ilişki kurulabileceği, bu yazmanın minyatürlerinden sanat tarihi öğretiminde nasıl faydalanılabileceği, ortaöğretim düzeyindeki öğrencilere yönelik olarak örneklenmiştir. Bu örnekleme, 2005 yılında uygulamaya konan “İlkokul ve Ortaokul Görsel Sanatlar Eğitimi”dersi ve 2014 yılında uygulamaya konan “Ortaokullar İçin Seçmeli Görsel Sanatlar” derslerine dayandırılmaktadır. “İlköğretim Görsel Sanatlar Eğitimi” Bu dersin hedeflerinden yarısına yakını sanat tarihi öğretimi ile ilişkilidir. Sanat tarihi öğretimine yönelik kazanımlar budersin öğretim alanlarından ‘Kültürel Miras’ öğrenme alanı ile ‘Sanat Eleştirisi ve Estetik’ içinde bulunmaktadır. Minyatür sanatı, ‘Ortaokullar için ‘Seçmeli Görsel Sanatlar’ dersi’ kapsamında ise başlı başına bir öğrenme modülü olarak yer almaktadır. Bu derste sanat tarihi öğretimine ilişkin analiz, sentez ve yorum yoluyla öğrencilerin edindikleri bilgileri özümsemeleri ve sanat eserlerini daha anlamlı değerlendirilmeleri becerilerini geliştirmeye yönelik kazanımlar bulunmaktadır. Surname-i Hümayun yazması minyatürleri görsel sanatlar eğitimi içinde yer alan eğitsel hedefler kapsamında Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi’nde incelenebilir. Sanat tarihi eğitimi Müze tarafından yapılacak çeşitli çalışmalar ve projelerle desteklenebilir.

The use of miniatures in the art history education: the example of the Surname-i Hümayun in the Topkapı Palace Museum

In the art history education, students have the need to study and learn the forms of art production, the artists and the works of art in their cultures, as well as the works of art and the artists in various countries of the world. The miniature art is one of the Turkish characteristic and traditional arts. Topkapı Palace Museum contains the most successful and interesting examples of different periods and cultures of Turkish miniature art. These miniatures are also a historic document that reflects the history of the Ottoman Revolution, the economic and social life. It is also very suitable for the study of the purpose of the art history teaching "to contribute to the understanding of the importance of the works of art and their place in society". The aim of this study is to contribute to the understanding of the importance of miniature in the art history education and to illustrate the subject of how to take advantage of the miniature art works in the Topkapı Museum Library. For this example, the miniatures of the writing named Surname-i Hümayun have been selected. The reason for this work being chosen is that it primarily contains the most important examples of the Roman miniature style of the classical period. Another reason is that Surname-i Hümayun is one of the most suitable writings of the Topkapı Palace Museum, which can establish relations with the objectives related to art history and miniature education in the framework of the "Visual Arts Course" included in the secondary school teaching program in terms of subject and design. This article first and foremost is based on the summer scan of the field, the Turkish miniature art, the work of Surname-i Hümayun, the art history education and the art history teaching within the Turkish educational system. Later, the art history teaching and how the relationship between Surname-i Hümayun can be established, how this writing can be used in the art history teaching, is shown to students at the high school level. This sample is based on the 2005 "Primary and High School Visual Arts Education" course and the 2014 "Selective Visual Arts for High Schools" course. "Primary Education Visual Arts Education" is about half of the objectives of this course related to the teaching of art history. The achievements towards the teaching of art history are found in the field of learning "Cultural Heritage" from the teaching fields of "Art Criticism and Aesthetics". The miniature art is included as a learning module on its own in the framework of the 'Selective Visual Arts' course for high school students. This course includes achievements aimed at developing the skills of students to absorb the information they acquire through analysis, synthesis and interpretation of art history teaching and to evaluate art works more meaningfully. Surname-i Hümayun writing miniatures can be studied in the Topkapı Palace Museum within the framework of the educational objectives included in the visual arts education. Art history education can be supported by various works and projects that will be carried out by the Museum.

In Art history education, students need to know and examine artistic forms, artists and art works of their own culture as well as other various countries’. Miniature art is one of the unique and traditional art forms of Turkey. Topkapi Palace Museum has the most important and interesting examples of the Turkish Miniature Art that dated to different periods of Ottoman Empire. At the same time, they are historical documents that reflect the historical, economic and social life of Ottoman Empire. These miniatures are also very appropriate art works that can be used to investigate for the purpose of ‘contributing to the undertstanding of the importance of art and its place in the community’ of art history teaching. The aims of this study are to contribute to the understanding of the importance of miniature art in art history education and give an example of how miniature paintings can be used at Topkapi Palace Museum Library. For this example the miniatures of the Surname-i Hümayun manuscript was determined. This manuscript was choosen because it primarily comprises the most important examples of classical Ottoman miniature style. Another reason is that it is one of the most appropriate manuscripts of Topkapi Palace Museum that can be connected with educational objectives of art history education and learning about the miniature art. In this paper, firstly the Turkish miniature art, Surname-i Hümayun manuscript, art history education and art history teaching in the Turkish education system were examined which based on the literature review study. And then what kind of relationship could be established between the teaching of art history and Surname-i Hümayun, how the miniatures of this manuscript can be utilized in the teaching of art history were sampled for secondary school students.This sampling was based on ‘Visual Arts Education for Primary and Secondary Schools" course that was put into effect in 2005 and ‘Selective Visual Art for Secondary Schools’ course that was put into effect in 2014. The half of the objectives of the ‘Visual Arts Education for Primary and Secondary Schools" course is related to the teaching of art history. Tthe educational objectives related to art history teaching take place in the learning area of ‘Cultural Heritage’ and ‘Art Ciriticism and Aesthetic’ ‘Miniature art is a separate learning module in the context of the ‘Selective Visual Art Education for Primary and Secondary Schools’. There is educational objectives related to art history learning such as to develop the skills of assimilating the information that the students were gained and to appreciate artists and artworks through making analysis, synthesis and interpretation. Miniatures of the Surname-i Hümayun manuscript can be examined within the context of educational objectives visual art education courses at the Topkapi Palace Museum. Art history education can be supported by the Museum through several studies and projects.
