Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accordance of informative and fictional texts in 7th level Turkish coursebook in the sense of textuality criteria. For this purpose, accordance of textuality criteria of the texts in 7th level Turkish coursebook are evaluated according to the scale that Işeri (2010) suggested. In this study which document analysis is used, informative and fictional texts and poems in Turkish coursebook used by 7th grade students in Antalya are used as data source. Statement of problem of this study is defined as follows: "Are texts in 7th level Turkish coursebook appropriate in terms of textuality criteria?" Two texts from each theme in Ministry of Education Publishing (2012) and Elementary Turkish 7th level coursebook is defined as a sample. This study is counted significant because it determines the accordance of the texts in 7th secondary level Turkish coursebooks according to textuality criteria. In the findings of the study, informative and fictional texts in 7th secondary level Turkish coursebook are generally appropriate for textuality criteria except for readability status. When looking at readability status, texts are generally not "Independent Reading" which is the standard readability level for a 7th level student. Suggestions that can be made according to the results of the study are that readability status of the texts should match with the level of the students, that this reason should be taken into consideration while selecting texts, that understandability level of the texts which take place in the coursebooks should absolutely be checked and while selecting texts attention should be taken.
