Sâfî, XVIII. yüzyılın son yarısında ve XIX. yüzyılın ilk yıllarında yaşamıştır. Tezkirelerde yer alan Sâfî mahlaslı şairler incelendiğinde içlerinden yalnızca Sâfî Murtaza Efendi ile yüzyıl bakımından bir uyum söz konusudur. Ancak Divan’ı incelenen Sâfî hem Bektâşi hem de İşrâkî’dir. Oysa Sâfî Murtaza Efendi’nin Bektâşî ve İşrâkî oluşuna dair herhangi bir ipucu yoktur. Bu sebeple bu iki kişinin aynı kişiler olup olmadığı konusunda şüpheler bulunmaktadır. Makalede bu karşılaştırmayı yapabilmek için Murtaza Sâfî Efendi’nin hayatından bahsedilmiş ve Sâfî’nin hayatına dair bilgiler Divan’dan elde edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu bilgilere göre Sâfî, Rumeli, İstanbul ve Uşak gibi coğrafyalarda bulunmuş, H. 1221- 1222/ M. 1807- 1808 yılları arasında sadrazam olarak görev yapmış Tayyar Mahmud Paşa’nın kitabet hizmetine atanmıştır. Dolayısıyla mesleği kâtiplik olan bir kişidir. Makalenin diğer bölümünde tespit edilmiş olan iki Divan nüshası tanıtılarak bu eserlerde yer alan nazım biçimleri ortaya konmuştur. Sonraki bölümde, Türk inanç sistemi içinde önemli bir yer tutan Alevî- Bektâşî kültürünün Sâfî’nin şiirine nasıl yansıdığı üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu bölüm, Hacı Bektâş Veli Sevgisi, Hz. Ali ve Ehl-i Beyt Sevgisi, On İki İmam Sevgisi, Dört Kapı Kırk Makam, İkrar ve Kerbelâ Olayı başlıklarından oluşmaktadır. Son bölümde İslâm felsefesinin ekollerinden biri olan ve ünlü filozof Şehabeddin Sühreverdî’nin kurduğu İşrâkiyye felsefesi tanıtılmıştır. Söz konusu felsefe, Nur Suresi, Nur, Nuru’n-Nur ve Zulmet başlıkları altında incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
