Abstract:

4 May Movement in China allowed to spread western and communist ideas in Chinese society and it had a great impact on the progress of the Chinese Village Literature, which began in the 1920s and 1930s. Under the influence of this movement, which brought about the modernization of China, a group of Chinese intellectuals revealed the differences between China and western countries and they soon turned their attention to the peasants who constituted the most important part of Chinese society. Today, one of the advocates of the Village Literature is Mo Yan, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012. Our work is on the translation of Mo Yan’s novel “Life and Dead are Wearing Me Out”. Within the scope of this article, the author’s works, which are generally handled in terms of political discourse will be examined in terms of the theoretical strategies in the translation of the novel in which fiction is based on Buddhism. Firstly the stages of Buddhism and the fictional frame of the novel are briefly introduced. Western translation strategies, for instance equivalence, alienation, domestication, cultural borrowing, generalization, explication, addition, subtraction and perspective shifting methods combined with the translation theory of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance (信达雅/ Xin, Da, Ya )”, which Yan Fu found. This study is important in terms of introducing Eastern translation theory which includes Western translation theories and methods that can be followed in Chinese- Turkish translation
