Abstract:

The trip to Grit, which was in an important position in terms of the control and security of the Mediterranean Sea, the time the Ottoman State launched in 1645, lasted about a quarter of a century until the island was fully conquered in 1669. The conquest of Grit, which holds an important place in the Ottoman history, has been widely included in the Ottoman Chronicles, and many of the special works that tell the time have been taken into the pencil. The most of these works are the kinds of works that people who participate in themselves get in pencil. In addition to this, there are also many documents in the archives of the Ottoman. In the first part of the history of the period, the sources of the Girit journey are from the Ottoman historical chronicles of the period, Târîh-i Naîmâ, Silahdar Târîhi, Fezleke, Târih-i Râşid and Travelâme. In these sources, the main topics that are focused on the Grit journey include: preparations for the Sefer, the land and sea wars that were until 1669 when the entire island was conquered, the events during the war, the status of the castles and cities in the occupied places, the war-time communications, refugees and appointments. In this study, the story of the Grit War, which lasted about a quarter of the century in the Ottoman history, reflecting the Ottoman sources and archive documents, was tried to be compared in the context of similarities or differences.
