Abstract:

This study, which aims to develop the arguments skills in middle school eighth class students in the courses of science on social-mobility subjects, is designed as a collaborative action research. The study group consisted of 26 eighth-class students. In the study, 27 weeks of application was conducted. The data is collected with written documents on the argumentation skills, unstructured observations, teachers and student logs. The research data is analyzed through content analysis. The research results showed that at the end of the application, all students were able to produce arguments consisting of claims, justifications, proofs, opposite claims and justifications and distorting components. Furthermore, various problems related to the components of the skills of argumentation and the variables of the teaching-learning process have been identified during the development of the skills of argumentation. The research is important in terms of the arrangements to be made for the development of the arguments skills with social movements and the provision of information on the problems that may encounter in the process, the collaborative action research is important in terms of the provision of information about the implementation process.
