Bu araştırmanın amacı sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının temel ekoloji kavramları ve çevre sorunları konusundaki kavram yanılgılarını tespit etmektir Çalışmanın amacı kapsamında alan taraması survey yöntemi kullanılarak mümkün olduğunca fazla veriye ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır Araştırmaya 2008 2009 eğitim öğretim yılında KTÜ Fatih Eğitim Fakültesi ilköğretim bölümü sınıf öğretmenliği programı 2 sınıfta öğrenim gören 158 öğretmen adayı katılmıştır Öğretmen adaylarının temel ekoloji kavramları ve çevre sorunlarına yönelik kavram yanılgılarını belirleyebilmek için araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen ve 20 sorudan oluşan iki aşamalı kavram başarı testi ve 3 açık uçlu soru kullanılmıştır Kavram başarı testinin çoktan seçmeli birinci aşamasının analizinde SPSS 15 paket programından faydalanılırken yazılı metinlerden oluşan ikinci aşamanın ve açık uçlu soruların analizinde ise içerik analizi kullanılmıştır Araştırma sonunda öğretmen adaylarının özellikle enerji piramidi biyokütle besin ağı besin zinciri ve sera etkisi asit yağmurları ve ozon tabakasındaki incelme gibi çevre sorunlarının nedenleri ve sonuçları konusunda kavram yanılgısı yaşadıkları görülmüştür
