2017
Journal:
RumeliDE Dil ve Edebiyat Araştırmaları Dergisi
Author:
Abstract:

Oğuz Atay, who is one of the most important Turkish writers that have a powerful sense of humor, draws portrait of the petty bourgeois intellectuals –he is also one of the representative of them- ironically in a plane of parody by a bitter procession. When we remember that a funny imcompatibility of parody with another work or thinking and even it’s extending the procession, we see that Atay justifies his criticism for our Westernization adventure to Republication revolution and the left and right ideology in Turkey on this technique. In addition to the researchers claimig Atay’s ironic style does not turn into satire and even it remains as a joke, the existence of critics saying that his humor sense is more pronounced than irony, take us to the belief that it is wrong to still trying to interpret Atay from one angle. When we look at Tutunamayanlar that is a narrative of almost many text snippets are piled on top at a carnival atmosphere, irony, satire, rude humor, black humor, procession, joke are met in a harmony with each other especially at the plane of parody. The basic premise of these claims is naivety of procession in the approach to intellectuals as Atay describes them as Tutunamayan “disconnectus erectus” also as he regards himself like them and it’s remaining up in the air because he does not show remedy. Furthermore the thing that pulling critics into dilemma is Atay’s cynical attitude of the pages that are wrapped in a satirical view in the text. As a language that can be considered as examples of black humor shows itself, mourning procession of satire takes place instead of naivety. This issue can actually be interpreted as a parody of the novel Tutunamayanlar. Our intellectual that is unable to perform himself and suffering from failing to be individual was forced to take on an intellectual profile recalling the need to educate the society and tried to be “Light” like all Turkish intellectuals even though he did not run after rude and simple solutions, instead of dealing with the existence problem which would remain at an irony level in a mental plane.
