Abstract:

This study is an ex post facto research which has investigeted the effect of metacognition on the prospective science teachers 8217; academic achievement The research was conducted on a group of 104 students attending the Science Teaching Department of Çukurova University The students were grouped as 8220;high 8221; 8220;middle 8221; 8220;low 8221; accordig to the avarage marks of their undergraduated education These groups were madeby using the related literature Metacognition Abilities Scale was used as a data acquisition tool The data were analyzed using the correlation and one way Anova analysis When the data were analyzed it was seen that there was a high positive and significant colleration between the future science teachers 8217; academic achievement and metacognition abilities as well as that teachers 8217; academic achievement increased significantly with her his metacognition abilities The results were compared with the studies on the related literature and some suggestions were made Key words: Metacognition ex post facto research academic achievement science education
