Bu çalışmada 15. yüzyılda Niğde şehrinde iskân ve mahalleler değerlendirilecektir. Niğde şehri 15. yüzyılda uzun süre Karamanoğulları hâkimiyetinde kalmış yüzyılın ikinci yarısında Osmanlı hâkimiyetine girmiştir. Osmanlı devleti tarafından 15. yüzyılın sonu ve 16. Yüzyılın başında düzenlenen vakıf ve tahrir defterlerinden Niğde şehrindeki mahalleleri büyük ölçüde tespit edilmiştir. Bu defterlerde yer alan mahalle isimlerinin Karamanoğulları hâkimiyeti sırasında mevcut olduğu düşünülmektedir. Niğde şehrindeki mahallelerden bahseden ilk kaynak 1415 tarihli Karamanoğlu Ali Bey vakfiyesidir. Bu vakfiyede 3 mahalle ismi yer almakta olup çalışmada kullandığımız diğer kaynaklarda isimleri zikredilmemektedir. Şehrin Osmanlı hâkimiyetine girmesine müteakip 1476 ve 1483 tarihlerinde düzenlenen vakıf defterlerinde Niğde şehrine ait mahalle ve mescit isimleri yer almaktadır. Ayrıca 16. yüzyılın başlarında düzenlenen tahrir defterinde de şehirde 29 mahalle ismi zikredilmektedir. 16. Yüzyılın başlarında düzenlenen tahrir defterlerinde tespit edilebilen mahalle isimlerinin birkaç tanesi hariç Karamanoğulları devrinde de bu mahalle isimlerinin büyük ölçüde mevcut olduğu tespit edilebilmektedir. 16. yüzyılın başlarında düzenlenen tahrir defterinde şehirde iki tane gayrimüslim mahalle olduğu görülmekte olup bu mahallelerin 15. yüzyılda da mevcut olabileceği ihtimal dâhilindedir.
