Toplumun ve toplumsal gelişimin hizmetinde, halka açık, insana ve yaşadığı çevreye tanıklık eden materyaller üzerinde araştırma yapan ve sunduğu eğitim olanaklarıyla halkın estetik zevkiyle bilgi düzeyini artırmayı amaçlayan müzeler, 21. yüzyılda eğitim ve iletişime olağan işlevlerden daha fazla önem verilmektedir. Müze işletmeciliği, müzede pazarlama stratejileri, profesyonel sergi tasarımcılığı, halkla ilişkiler, ziyaretçi politikaları, sergi ve kültürel miras yö- netimi ile müzede eğitim gibi kavramlar sıkça kullanılır ve uygulanır hale gelmektedir. Bu noktada bazı müzeler hedef kitlelerini daraltmakta ve eğitimi ana amaç haline getirmektedir. Etkin, yaratıcı ve çağdaş bireylerin yetiştirilmesine katkı sağlamak amacından yolan çıkan Çocuk Mü- zeleri de bu müze türlerinden biridir. 1899 yılında New York Brooklyn’de açılan dünyanın ilk çocuk müzesi, yaparak ve yaşayarak öğrenmenin vücut bulduğu bu anlayışın 21. yüzyıla taşınmasında önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Günümüzde İngiltere’den Mısır’a, Rusya’dan Avustralya’ya kadar dünyanın çok sayıda ülkesinde etkileşimli sergiler tasarlayan çocuk müzeleri bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma Avrupa’daki çocuk müzeleri sınırlı tutulmuştur. Ayrıca Avrupa’da çocukluğun toplumsal tarihi ve oyuncak üzerine yoğunlaşmış bazı müzelerle ilgili bilgi verilmiştir. Frankfurt ve Hamburg’daki çocuk müzeleri çocukların dokunarak, yaparak ve yaşayarak öğrenmelerini amaçlayan ve bu amaçla sergi hazırlayan kurumlar olarak Avrupa’daki çocuk müzelerine örnek oluşturmak amacıyla tanıtılmıştır.

Museums which are non-profit public places are always ready for the service of public and public development. They also do researches about the materials which are the witnesses for the people and their environment. Museums collect, protect, share informations, examine and use these materials for the improvement of people’s education and aesthetic satisfaction. In 21st century, education and communication are more important than the other basic functions for museums. Museum management, marketing strategies in museums, professional curatorship, public relations, visitor policies, exhibition and cultural heritage management and museum education are often used and applied. At this point some museums focus on specific target groups and make education as their ultimate purpose. Children’s museums which support bringing up active, creative and modern persons are one of them. In 1899 first children’s museum of the world, which welcomed its visitors in Brooklyn, New York, played a crucial role in extending the approach of learning by doing. Nowadays, children’s museums are established all around the world from England to Egypt and from Russia to Australia. In this research especially children’s museums in Europe are discussed. In addition to that, museums which focus on childhood, social history of childhood and children’s toys are also discussed. Frankfurt Children’s Museum and Klick Children’s Museum which are designed for children’s learning by doing and living are introduced in the context of giving contemporary examples for children’s museums.
