Ahmet Midhat Efendi, 1890'larda Batı edebiyatında güçlü etkileri olan natüralizm akımına kayıtsız kalmayarak natüralist bir roman addettiği Müşahedat'ı kaleme alır. Roman yazılış amacı ve tekniği itibariyle önemli özellikler taşır. Eserin natüralist bir söylem ile ortaya çıkması ve üstkurmaca özelliği taşıması, onun incelemeye değer iki yönünü teşkil eder. Roman iyi bir üst kurmaca örneği olarak döneminde farklı ve yeni olmasına rağmen, natüralist olma iddiasıyla çıkılan noktada, gerçekçilik ve doğalcılık yönünden Émile Zola'nın natüralizm anlayışından farklılık gösterir. Bu farklılıkları tespit etmek, yazarın natüralizmi algılayış şekli ve romanın natüralizmin ilkelerine ne derece uygun olduğu konusunda fikir edinebilmek açısından yol gösterici olacaktır. Bu çalışmada, Müşahedat adlı romanın natüralizmin esasları yönünden bir değerlendirmesi yapılacak, Émile Zola’nın Thérèse Raquin adlı romanı gerekli noktalarda natüralizmin bir örneği olarak Müşahedat ile mukayese edilecektir. Böylece Ahmet Midhat Efendi’nin natüralist bir eser yazma amacına ne ölçüde ulaştığı konusunda bir sonuca varılacak ve çalışma bu noktalar üzerinde odaklanacaktır.
In 1890s, Ahmet Midhat Efendi grinded out Müşahedat that he assumed to be a novel as not being indifferent to the Naturalism that has powerful effects on Western Literature. The novel has important features in terms of writing technique and aim. The appearance of the novel with a naturalist discourse and carriying the features of metafiction make the work worth analyzing. Although the novel as a good example of metafiction is different and new in its period, from the point of realistic and naturalist differs from Emile Zola's understanding of naturalism. At this point, to identify those differences will lead to having an idea about how the writer perceives naturalism and to what extent the novel is suitable for the principles of naturalism. In this stuy, an evaluation of the novel called as Müşahedat will be done on the basis of naturalist principles and in case of a need will be compared with Émile Zola's novel called as Thérèse Raquin as an example of naturalism. Thus, it will be concluded that to what extent Ahmet Midhat Efendi reached his goal to write a naturalist piece of literature and the study focused on these points.
