TÜRKÇE ÖĞRETMENİ ADAYLARININ MOBİL İLETİŞİM ALIŞKANLIKLARI: WHATSAPP ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract:

Mobil mesajlaşma uygulamalarından WhatsApp bugün yoğun biçimde kullanılmaktadır. Bu durum bireylerin okuryazarlık becerilerini, yazarak ve konuşarak iletişim kurma eylemlerini etkilemektedir. Dolayısıyla dijital haberleşme araçları dil öğretimi için de önemli bir materyaldir. Dijital araçları kullanabilme becerileri ise dil öğretiminde kazandırılmalıdır. Fakat öncelikle Türkçe öğretmenleri ve adaylarının dijital iletişim alışkanlıklarının istenilen düzeyde olması gerekir. Araştırmada, Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının bir mobil cihaz uygulaması olan WhatsApp aracılığıyla sergiledikleri iletişim alışkanlıklarının tespit edilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma, tarama modeline göre yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemi, bir devlet üniversitesinin eğitim fakültesinde öğrenim gören Türkçe öğretmeni adayları (n=102) arasından belirlenmiştir. Adayların WhatsApp üzerinden gerçekleştirdikleri iletişim alışkanlarını tespit etmek için alanyazındaki ilgili araştırmalardan hareketle araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş olan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Hazırlanan form araştırmacı tarafından örneklemdeki adaylara elden ulaştırılmış ve yüz yüze görüşme yapılarak toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler üzerinde nitel analiz teknikleri kullanılarak bulgular yorumlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; adayların tamamının mesajlaşmak için kolaylık, kitlesel kullanımı, işlevsellik gibi gerekçelerle WhatsApp’ı kullandığı, çoğu adayın mesajlaşırken hitap ifadesi ile başladığı; iyi dilek/temenni ifadesi ile bitirdiği gibi sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır.

WhatsApp is widely used today from mobile messaging apps. This situation affects the literary skills of individuals, the actions of communicating by writing and speaking. Therefore, digital communication tools are also an important material for language teaching. The ability to use digital tools should be gained in language teaching. But first of all, Turkish teachers and candidates must have digital communication habits at the desired level. The study aims to identify the communication habits that Turkish teachers candidates show through WhatsApp, a mobile device app. The research was carried out according to the screening model. The sample of the study was determined among the Turkish teacher candidates (n=102) studying at a state university’s educational faculty. A semi-configured conversation form developed by the researcher has been used to identify the communication habits that candidates perform through WhatsApp, taking action from the relevant research in the field. The form prepared by the researcher was hand-to-hand delivered to the candidates in the sample and collected by face-to-face interviews. The findings are interpreted using quality analysis techniques on the obtained data. The study found that all candidates used WhatsApp for reasons such as ease, mass use, functionality to communicate, the majority of candidates started with a calling expression while communicating, and ended with a good wish expression.

WhatsApp from mobile messaging applications is being used extensively in the today. This situation affects the literacy skills of individuals, writing and speaking communication. Therefore, digital communication tools are an important material for language teaching. The skills of using digital tools should be acquired in language teaching. However, first of all, Turkish teachers and candidates should have the desired level of digital communication habits. In this study, it is aimed to determine the habits of using WhatsApp as a communication tool for Turkish teacher candidates. The research was conducted according to the survey research model. The sample of the study was determined among the Turkish teacher candidates (n=102) who studied at the faculty of education of a state university. A semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher based on the relevant research in the field literature was used to identify the ways of using WhatsApp. The prepared form was delivered to the candidates in the sample by the researcher and collected face to face interviews. The results were interpreted using qualitative analysis techniques on the obtained data. As a result of the research; all the candidates used the WhatsApp for reasons such as convenience, mass use, functionality to message, and the results were achieved as most candidates started with the expression of address and finished with the expression of good wishes.
