Abstract:

At the end of World War II, Russia made a few demands from Turkey. Turkey responded negatively to Russia’s demands and entered into cooperation with the Western States. There was a multi-party governance system in the Western states. A short time later, President Ismet Inönü took action on a multi-party democratic transition. There were some disputes within the Republican People's Party. Therefore, some members resigned from the party. People who resigned from the Republican People's Party formed the Democratic Party. The President and the Republican People's Party first supported the establishment of the Democratic Party. But the rapid formation of the Democratic Party required the Republican People's Party to take some measures. Therefore, the 1946 elections were anticipated. The Democratic Party, which was not prepared for the election, did not succeed. After the election of 1946, the struggle between the Republican People's Party and the Democratic Party gained speed. The Silverhouse is one of the places where the Republican People's Party and the Democratic Party are fighting. This study examined the struggle between the Republican People's Party and the Democratic Party during the general elections of 1946 and 1950 in Gümüşhane. The research was conducted using the documents in the Presidential State Archive and other printed sources.
