Abstract:

This study focuses on the emotional experiences of mothers with disabled children. The main purpose of the study is to identify the emotional experiences and support needs of mothers, identifying the topics that should be included in the psychological consultation intervention program with a group that is expected to be effective for mothers. This type of work is a pattern of work. In the study, the maximum diversity sample was used and the study included the mothers of a total of seven children from five different diagnostic groups as participants. In the research, the conversation method was used as the basic method of data collection. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed by the method of content analysis. Analysis found that in the first period when mothers with disabled children learned that their children are disabled, negative emotional experiences came to the forefront, but with the beginning of acceptance, negative emotions were reduced and positive emotions began to experience. It has been found that in every stage of the mother's life they need the spouse, family, social environment, expert and government support. In the psychological counseling group, which is a dimension of expert support, it was revealed that both educational and emotional topics should be included. These achieved results were discussed in the light of the area and recommendations were presented.
