Abstract:

    The aim of the study is to determine the effect of nonviolent communication psycho‐education program on the feelings of hopelessness and stress management of mothers who have a history of domestic violence. The research was conducted as a single‐group pretest‐posttest pattern. For this purpose, the study group consisted of 30 mothers with a family history of domestic violence. The research was conducted in two sections. In the first part, qualitative data were gathered to define the information about mothers' domestic violence and nonviolent communication through semi‐structured interview.In the second section, non‐violent communication psycho‐education program was applied. The non‐violent communication psycho‐education program consists of 12 sessions that last 120 minutes once a week. Data; personal information form, information on nonviolent communication, Beck Hopelessness Scale and Coping Styles Scale were used. For statistical evaluation of the data collected, SPSS for Windows 22.0 package program was used. In the evaluation, variance analysis was used in n,%, content analysis and repetitive measurements. When the demographic characteristics of 30 mothers were investigated; 75.1% in the 28‐32 age group, 70.4% in primary school, 86.2% in 8 years married, 68.6% of the spouses in agreement with their spouses. In the study, the mean scores of mothers who participated in the non‐violent communication psycho‐education program and the styles of coping with stress increased significantly in the last measurement and follow‐up measurements.
