Abstract:

Objectives of the study: The aim of this study is; to reveal current situations, outlook on life and future expectations of elderly people living in Denizli city state nursing home. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was designed based on a qualitative field research. For data collection semi-structured face to face interviews techniques were applied to 35 elderly volunteers living in the state nursing home. Conclusion: In conclusion, while the nursing home had successfully satisfied the basic needs of the elderly based on its institutional mission, the social environment had significant shortcomings in fulfilling the expectations of the elderly. The results of this research generally support the role exit theory and the disengagement theory but partially support the activity theory.
