Abstract:

The Armenian events that occurred at the end of the century, as a result, were a great opportunity for mission organizations, and these organizations opened stations one by one in the eastern regions. In 1909, the events in Adana and its surroundings also revealed a new workplace for mission agencies, and the German missionaries began to operate in the area with the orphanage they opened in the Haruniye Caryesi related to the Garden Accident located within the Adana province. The German Assistance Association (Deutscher Hülfsbund für Christliches Liebeswerk in Orient), which had an important place in the establishment of the German Orthodox House in Harunye, in the 1890s had successfully worked on mission through its units and work in the areas such as Maraş, Mamuretülaziz and Van. The help union was permitted to conduct an effective mission work in the activities areas by opening health units, health units, care houses and workshops for wives, including orphanages. This statement will provide information about the German Orthodox House in the Haruniye Circle, which is one of the important stations of the German Aid Association and is located within the Cebel-i Bereket Strait. Here before, the process of establishment of the orphanage will be revealed and the communications of the missionaries with the Ottoman authorities in this position. Later, information will be given about the state and the work of the orphanage in the years of the First World War, which represents a critical period for the Ottoman State. Finally, it will be explained how the children who remained in the orphanage with the end of the war and how the institution was transferred to the U.S. aid agency Near East Relief.
