Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore the attitudes of children in the pre-school period towards the environment, the protection of the environment, recycling, consumption habits and life habits with the underdimensions. The study’s work group consists of 71 children selected by random sampling method from 54-60-month-old children to independent state kindergartens and native schools connected to the Ministry of National Education in Mersin or Yenişehir district. The model of the study is determined as a single group of pre-test-son-test models of experimental methods. According to this design, the implementation of the pre-test with each of the participants, the implementation of the environmental training program and the implementation of the final-test, were performed accordingly. The study’s data collection material is ‘Children’s Environmental Attitudes Measurement-Pre-School Version. The data was collected by each participant in conversations. Questions regarding each of the 15 items in the data collection material were asked by showing the pictures of the content of the materials to the children and recording the children's answers. The duration of the environmental education program to be implemented within the framework of the research is four weeks. Environmental training is applied with field trips to different areas one day a week and events here. Participants’ attitudes towards the environment have been measured before and after the implementation of the environmental training program. Research finds that the four-week environmental education program has not affected the attitudes of pre-school children towards the environment. The results of the study have been discussed and recommended for the work to be done in the future.
