Abstract:

The aim of this research is to study the impact of active learning-based activities on the problem-solving skills of students in the 5th grade of primary education Science and Technology course. In the study, a experimental study was conducted in accordance with the "controlling group pre-test-sontest model". Active learning-based activities have been implemented to the experimental group, and the control group has implemented the existing MEB program. The study was conducted on 39 students, including 19 experiments, 20 control groups, in two 5th classes within the Cemil Turker Primary School in the 2012 - 2013 year. The experiment and control groups have been applied "Problem Solving Skills Test". The data obtained from the problem-solving ability test during the study, the arithmetic average and standard deviation values were visually given with the "t" test in independent groups and the single-factor ANCOVA test. As a result, the problem-solving skill is found to be significantly higher than the problem-solving skill of the study group where the active learning approach is applied and the problem-solving skill of the study group where the problem-solving skill is applied.
