Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine education and arts and science faculty preservice students' self-efficacy beliefs and their attitudes toward teaching profession and also to explore whether the self efficacy belief is a significant predictor of attitude toward teaching or not. The research was based on the relational survey model. The sample of the study consists of 411 pre-service students attending education and arts and science faculty of Ankara, Gazi, Hacettepe and Aksaray Üniversity. Data was collected by “Self-Eficacy Scale” and “Attitude Toward Teaching Profession Scale”. Data were analyzed through ttest, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analyses. The research findings show that the perceptions of the faculty of education pre-service students’ selfefficacy beliefs are higher than that of the faculty of arts and science students. However, arts and sciences faculty pre-service students’ perception of attitude toward teaching was found higher than that of education faculty students. Additionally, research revealed that attitude toward teaching profession was not a significant predictor of self efficacy
