Abstract:

Aim: With this study it is aimed to identify and compare the hospital employees’ perception of the patient and employee safety culture according to the type of the hospitals. Method: In obtaining the research data, “Patient and Employee Safety Culture Questionnaire in Health Care Facilities” was applied to the employees of a private hospital and a public hospital operating in Ankara. Hospitals have general hospital status according to the type of service provided. Simple random sampling method was used as sampling method in both hospitals. There are a total of 207 employees in the private hospital and the data obtained from 150 people were subjected to statistical analysis. In the public hospital, there are 746 employees in total and the data obtained from 450 people have been subjected to statistical analysis. Independent Sample T-Test to determine whether participants’ perceptions of patient and employee safety differ according to their various variables (age, gender, marital, education level, occupation, profesional sional experience, working hours, number of patients receiving daily care / treatment) Directional Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey analysis methods were used. Findings: As a result of the analysis, it was found that the perception of patient safety of employees differs according to the type of hospital (p = 0.00 <0.05), whereas the perception of employee safety did not differ (p = 0.82> 0.05). Results: It has been determined that the patient safety perception of public hospital employees is higher than the patient safety perception of private hospital employees. No significant difference was found between the perception of employee safety among private and public hospital employees.
