Abstract:

Türk edebiyat tarihinde Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar bilim adamı, şair; deneme, makale, roman ve hikâye yazarı olarak bilinir. Huzur adlı romanı 1948’de Cumhuriyet gazetesinde tefrika edilir. Gerek kurgusu gerekse içeriği bakımından büyük yenilikler getiren yapıt, kronolojik zaman çizgisinden uzak olması ve barındırdığı bilinç akışı tekniği yönünden de dikkat çekmiştir. Çalışmada, Huzur’da huzursuzluğun sembolü olarak karşımıza çıkan korku teması ele alınacaktır. Korku romanda iki şekilde kullanılmıştır: Genel ve özel. Genel korku kavramını yaratan savaşlardır. Bu savaşların biri Mümtaz’ın çocukluk çağında tanıklık ettiği Kurtuluş Savaşı’yken diğeri ise II. Dünya Savaşı’dır. II. Dünya Savaşı’nın her an başlayacak olması romanın başından sonuna kadar görülen bir korkuya neden olur. Romanda geçen özel korku ise başta Mümtaz, Nuran ve Fatma olmak üzere roman kişilerinin benliklerinden ve özel yaşamlarından doğar. Romanın başat kahramanı olan Mümtaz, korkularıyla birlikte yaşar. Kendisinin savunmasız biri olduğunu vurgulayan Mümtaz’ın korkuları babasının ölümüyle başlar ve yaşamı boyu devam eder. Kurtuluş Savaşı yıllarında çocukluğunu yaşayan Mümtaz, savaşın insanlar üzerinde bıraktığı korkulara ve yitimlere küçük yaşlarında tanıklık eder. İlerleyen yaşlarında hasta İhsan’ın her an öleceği korkusunu yaşar. Mümtaz âşık olduğu Nuran’la en iyi olduğu zamanlarda bile onu yitirme korkusunu en derinden yaşar. Romanın önde gelen kahramanlarından Nuran da hem kızı Fatma için hem de Mümtaz için korku içindedir.

The Fears Ended in Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's Peace Novel

In the history of Turkish literature, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar is known as a scientist, poet; experiment, article, novel and story writer. His novel, Peace, was published in the Republican newspaper in 1948. The work that brings great innovations in terms of content, if necessary, has also attracted attention from the chronological timeline and the technology of the flow of consciousness that it hosts. In the study, we will discuss the fear theme that we face as a symbol of unrest in Peace. Fear is used in two ways: General and Private. These are the struggles that create the general concept of fear. One of these wars was the War of Liberation, which Mümtaz witnessed in his childhood, while the other was the II. It is the World War. and II. The fact that the World War will begin at any moment will cause a fear seen from the beginning to the end of the novel. The particular fear in the novel originates primarily from the selfishness and private lives of the romanes, including Mümtaz, Nuran and Fatma. The hero of the novel, Mümtaz, lives with his fears. Mümtaz's fears, who emphasizes that he is an undefenseful person, starts with his father's death and continues his lifetime. Mümtaz, who lives his childhood in the years of the Liberation War, witnesses the fears and losses that the war leaves on the people in his young age. In his age, the patient is afraid that Ihsan will die at any time. Mümtaz lives the deepest fear of losing him, even when he is best with Nuran in love with him. One of the greatest heroes of the novel, Nuran, is in fear for his daughter Fatma and Mümtaz.

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar is known as a scientist, poet; essay, article, novel and story writer in Turkish literature history. His novel Peace was published in the Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1948. The work, which brought great innovations both in terms of fiction and content, drew attention to the fact that it is far from the chronological timeline and the consciousness flow technique it contains. In this study, the theme of fear will be discussed in Peace as a symbol of unrest. Fear is used in the novel in two ways: general and special. Wars are the points that create the concept of general fear. One of these wars was the Liberation War, which Mumtaz witnessed in his childhood, and the other was the World War II. The possibility that the World War II could start at any moment is the leading a fear from the beginning to the end of the novel. The special fear in the novel arises from the characters in the novel and their private lives, especially Mumtaz, Nuran and Fatima. Mumtaz, the main hero of the novel, lives with his fears. Emphasizing that he is vulnerable, Mumtaz's fears begin with the death of his father and continue throughout his life. Mumtaz, who lived his childhood during the War of Independence, witnessed the fears and c osts of wars on people at a young age. In their later years, he lives with the fear that the sick İhsan could die at any moment. Mumtaz lives in deeply fear of losing him even when he was in love with Nuran. Nuran, the leading hero of the novel, is in fear for both her daughter Fatma and Mumtaz.
