Abstract:

Abstract Housing is the first of problems that students educated away from their families must solve. Student dormitories have important place among various alternatives in meeting this need. These buildings are considered to have important influences on the students’ academic and social developments by their architectural properties. In this study, with the aim of determining user needs and increasing user satisfactions planning general design principles of student dormitories has been evaluated. In this context, firstly, basic concepts concerned with dormitories have been researched by literature review and the design principles have been determined by the examination of sample dormitory buildings. According to the obtained principles 12 private and 5 state dormitories have been investigated in Karabük. Spatial analyses of those buildings have been made and the obtained data has been evaluated comparatively in the result section.
