Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to examine young athletes’ attitudes towards moral decision-making and distancing from moral values in sports. The sample of the study consisted of 870 athletes who were active-licensee and reached by using the simple random sampling method in 2021. “The Scale of Moral Decision-Making Attitudes among Young Athletes” and “The Scale of Distancing from Moral Values in Sports-Short Form” were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics and MANOVA techniques were used in the analysis of the data, and .05 significance level was taken into account in the interpretation of the data. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that the moral decision-making attitudes of the athletes were at a good level and their attitudes towards distancing from moral values were low. The mean scores taken by the female athletes were found to be better than those of the male athletes and the attitudes of those engaged in individual sports were found to be better than those of the athletes engaged in team sports. The moral decision-making attitudes of the middle school and high school athletes and the middle school athletes’ attitudes towards distancing from moral values were found to be better. Those who had been doing sports for less than 6 years were found to have better moral decision-making attitudes. Sportive success was found to be a variable not significantly influential on the attitude scores. As a result, it can be said that the moral decision-making attitudes of the participating atheletes are at a good level and their attitudes towards distancing from moral values in sports are at a low level.
