Abstract:

This research aimed to survey the psychosocial problems of university students as based on 741 participants. The data were collected by an intake form. Eight problem areas were identified through factor analyses. These problem areas were compared to examine the group differences by biological sex, academic level, indicators of mental health problems, interest in living abroad and participation in extracurricular activities. Among these areas, career/future concerns and problems with affect were the most common problems. Women reported more career/future, affect, culture, and health, while men reported more addiction problems. English Preparatory students reported less career/future problems and students who were involved in extracurricular activities reported less future/career, academic, and relational problems. Students who were interested in living abroad reported more problems of culture and addiction. Students who had histories of receiving psychological help, suicidal plans and attempts reported more problems in most areas. Discussion emphasized the importance of developmental and preventive services for student well-being.
