Abstract:

Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to reveal in detail the environmental factors affecting the development process of the 9-year-old child named Benni, the protagonist of the movie System Crasher (Nora Fingschdeith, 2019), who benefits from foster care services, in the context of the concepts and ideas presented by the ecological system theory. In addition, an answer was sought to the question of how the evaluation of the movie System Crasher in the context of ecological system theory can be used in teaching theoretical knowledge in social work education. In the study, the movie was analyzed using qualitative research method and content analysis was applied. The data, which will help represent the scenes in the movie were conveyed through descriptive narration. The ecological system theory provided the opportunity to understand Benni's development process, the sources of the problems he experienced and the interventions to be made in this direction from a broader perspective. This research on Benni puts forward the basic argument that biopsychosocial assessments and interventions are necessary for children in need of protection by utilizing the knowledge base provided by ecological systems theory. At the same time, this evaluation in the example of System Crasher movie gives the idea about how movies will be used in teaching theoretical knowledge in social work education.
