arİmâmet meselesi, İslâm tarihinin erken döneminden günümüze kadar tartışma konusu olmaya devam etmiştir. İmâmetin vücûbiyeti, dayanakları, imâmda bulunması gereken vasıflar, ilk dört halifenin meşruiyeti, nass ve tayin meselesinin reddi, imâmın azli ve gaybeti gibi mevzular etrafında tartışılan imâmet, İmamiyye Şiası tarafından önemli bir inanç esası haline evrilmiştir. İmâmiyye Şiası’nın fıkhî ve amelî bir konu olan imâmet meselesini bir iman esası olarak görmesi, imâmın ancak nass ve tayin yoluyla belirlenebileceğini ve özel bazı vasıflarla mücehhez olduğunu savunması üzerine, Mu’tezile ve Ehl-i Sünnet imâmet meselesine ilişkin tartışmalara dâhil olmuştur. Bu çalışmada öncelikle İmâmiyye Şiası’nın konuya dair görüşleri üzerinde kısaca durulmuş, ardından da Mu’tezile ve Ehl-i Sünnet’in İmâmiyye Şiası’na reddiye şeklinde ortaya koydukları görüşleri mercek altına alınmıştır. Neticede Mu’tezile ve Ehl-i Sünnet’in imâmet konusundaki görüşlerinin, ileri sürdükleri delillerin ve İmâmiyye Şiası’na yönelttikleri eleştirilerin aynı minvalde olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
