Abstract:

On July 7, 1937, one of the world-historic wars between Japan and China began. Since 1937, Japan occupied China’s territory and managed to occupy a significant part of the country’s eastern territory. The Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang, KMT), which was active in China at that time, declared national mobility and demanded that the Chinese people fight against Japan with all their strength. At this stage, one of the historic national mobility propaganda was carried out by KMT and hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens were actively involved in the struggle against Japan. The KMT effectively used the posters in the propaganda of national mobility. In the framework of the study, it is intended to reveal what messages are given in the context of national mobility propaganda in the propaganda posters used by KMT. For this purpose, the six propaganda posters identified using the sample method for the purpose of the Shanghai Propaganda Posters Art Museum (SPPAC) in the framework of the study were studied using the indicative analysis method included in the quality research methods. The propaganda posters of KMT identified in the study were analyzed in the light of the indicator of the American linguist Charles Sanders Peirce. In the framework of the findings, it has been revealed that the KMT on the poster emphasizes that the Chinese people must act together in order to renew Japan and, on the other hand, the perception that the Chinese people are struggling firmly in the struggle against Japan.
