Abstract:

This study aims to explore the awareness of music teacher candidates, whose individual instrument is the guitar, in the use of finger numbers on the left hand in guitar training. For this purpose, the research was designed as a phenomenological qualitative study. The data collected with the semi-structured interview technique were coded and themes were formed and the obtained findings were interpreted. According to the results of the study, prospective music teachers exhibit awareness of the use of finger numbers on the left hand in guitar playing and interact with the phenomenon by carrying various effective characteristics. Also, in the effective characteristics of the music teacher candidates, it can be said that there is a tendency to see themselves as insufficient in writing finger numbers. Besides, it was determined that the teacher candidates were comfortable and felt happy and successful while playing the notes written with their finger numbers, considered the subject as a source of purpose to resist difficulties, benefited from it as a struggling area. In contrast to these positive emotions, expressions of emotions such as avoiding playing the notes with finger numbers, having difficulty, being careless towards the finger number while playing such notes, feeling anxiety, and feeling of failure when they were forced, emerged.
